  ON THE SPOIL HEAPS
  [for Dorothea]

  tink . . . tink . . . tink
  the hammerblows
  flake ironstone chips
  till the fissure splits
  halves fall apart
  and after darkness
  three hundred million years,
  sunlight falls
  on perfect fronds of fern.
