BALBOA PARK

Here by the lily pond
where, pink and waxy white,
fat blossoms float like stars
on silent water,
beneath the wall,
on close-cropped grass,
lunch-time loungers stretch,
brown-bagging it
in whispers.
Through the arch,
shadows
gather in the courtyard,
climb the stairs.
